Texas City PD pursuit suspect killed in deadly crash on SH 146: GCSO

TEXAS CITY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Texas City police pursuit ended with the suspect dying in a crash on SH 146 at FM 646 near Bacliff, according to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

The crash, which happened around 2:30 p.m., shut down the intersection for more than four hours and caused major delays during the afternoon rush hour.

According to GCSO, Texas City police were chasing a Chevy Cruze and heading northbound on 146 when the suspect vehicle crashed into two other vehicles, causing one to rollover.

The suspect died at the scene. Three people in the two other vehicles were injured and taken to the hospital.

According to authorities, there had been a disturbance call nearby, and the suspect fled. Texas City police spotted the vehicle, and when it would not stop, officers initiated the pursuit.

GCSO said its Crash team, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene of the crash. The Galveston County District Attorney's Office also responded to the scene as the investigation continues.

All northbound and southbound lanes near the intersection were shut down for the investigation. According to Houston TranStar, the scene was cleared at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

GCSO says the suspect is a 39-year-old man. His name has not been released.
