Husband charged with murder of his 89-year-old wife who was found shot to death: Galveston police

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Galveston police say a man has been charged with murder after his wife was found shot to death in a home early Monday.

According to Sgt. Gaspard, at about 4:30 a.m., first responders were called out to a home on Dominique Drive, just southeast of Scholes International Airport.

Police said when EMS arrived, they found the woman, identified as 89-year-old Anita Leal, dead with a gunshot wound and alerted police.

The woman's husband, identified as 88-year-old Ernest Leal, was detained after allegedly stating he had shot his wife, police said.

At this point, it's unclear what led to the shooting, but police say Ernest Leal faces a murder charge in his wife's death.

An investigation is ongoing.
