HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two inbound Katy Freeway lanes near downtown Houston were shut down on Saturday morning as crews worked to repair damage from Friday night, according to TxDOT.

According to police, a truck hit the bridge at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday night. A container became dislodged and blocked a couple of right-hand lanes, officers said.

According to TxDOT, several lanes of the Katy Freeway were closed for hours after the crash while repairs were being made. All lanes were open again by 6 p.m. on Saturday.

It's not quite the Rodeo, but this kind of thing has turned into a Houston tradition. The bridge has been hit well over 70 times in the last year.

Records show eight of those crashes were so dangerous that they required police investigations.

The bridge clearance is 14 feet 3 inches.

There is an ongoing project to raise the elevation of I-10.

TxDOT says that once completed, the Houston Avenue Bridge will sit below the I-10 main lanes, eliminating any future concerns about strikes on the bridge.
