Ogg's historic win gives her mandate to protect victims
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Kim Ogg hit the ground running Wednesday after a historic win for Harris County district attorney.
Ogg is the first Democrat to win the office in Harris County in 36 years, and this morning spoke with Eyewitness News about what she hopes to accomplish.

For Ogg, she said her election was about making sure the DA's office can secure the community without hurting victims.
"We have to do something about low-level offenders and the mentally ill filling our jails," she said.

"We'll have to diver them around and work with mental health officials to get the folks out of our jails, out on bond and to probation if they are guilty."
Ogg said among other reforms, she's going to focus on how rape kits are processed and the addition of marijuana reform in Harris County.
Bringing experience as the former director of Crime Stoppers and as a lawyer, Ogg said she is prepared to take on the challenge.
Republican incumbent Devon Anderson conceded the race for Harris County district attorney at a party for supporters around 9:50 p.m.
Democratic candidate Kim Ogg told supporters she will address them at 10 p.m.
