Houston's Top 10 Dog Parks
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We asked ABC-13 viewers the best places to take their four-legged friends. Here's the top 10 list:
16101 Westheimer Pkwy - Houston
Harris County's first-ever dog park still ranked number one on our list! The park was developed with the advice and assistance of the Houston Dog Park Association and the operators of some of the older dog parks in other cities. The parking lot at the dog park now has spaces for 100 vehicles, double its original size. The park itself occupies 15 acres and includes three small lakes.
6500 East Sam Houston Pkwy N - Houston
Located east of downtown Houston-near U.S. 90 and Beltway 8 - Gene Green Beltway 8 Park offers 250 acres of fun-filled activities and state-of-the-art equipment. Everything from the lighting to the water flow that runs through the park was made from recycled materials and designed to conserve resources. The splash park is open from the first Saturday in April to the last Saturday of October.
7500 Bay Area Blvd - Pasadena
There are separate fence enclosures for large and small dogs with over four acres for the big dogs and over an acre for small ones. The overall Dog Park has crushed granite walking trails in each section with a few concrete tables/benches. A pair of wash stations are located at the front of the park to cool the dogs during hot weather and to rinse off dirt and debris.
4129 Spring Creek Dr - Spring
This 380-acre park features a dog park, and two lakes that are perfect for fishing. Bring the horses because there are separate equestrian and multiuse trails. Pundt Park is part of the Spring Creek Greenway, and has a nearly 10-mile trail that connects the park with Stahl Preserve and Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center.
9118 Wheat Cross - Cypress
Horsepen Creek Park is 188 acres, with over three miles of trails. Even if you don't have a dog, there's a large lake where you can go fishing. Kids will love it too because the playground area features a rope climb!
5150 Red Bluff Rd - Pasadena
Partnership Park is a brand new dog park and children's playground in Pasadena complete with walking trails too. The Bark Park is in full operation and ready for some four legged, furry friends. Separated by chain link, the Bark Park is divided up to into areas for large and small dogs. There is plenty of outdoor equipment and shaded rest areas, so both you and your dog will have a great time!
3201 Hwy 6 North - Houston
There's something for everyone in Bill Archer Dog Park's 17 acres. In addition to the standard pond and showers for the pups, there's also a dog agility course. There's a skate park for the two-legged visitors too. If you need a place to walk your dog, there are a couple different walking trails for dogs in all shapes and sizes.
2929 Allen Parkway - Houston
This is the newest park around town, opening just last weekend in Buffalo Bayou Park. The two-acre area features fenced-off large and small dog ponds with a wetland area, dog washing spaces, shade structures, lighted areas, and 17 new parallel parking spaces along the Allen Parkway frontage road. The $1.5 million project is now one of the largest dog parks in Houston.
4828 1/2 Loop Central Dr. - Houston
The park at 610 and 59 has been around for 10 years now, and is a favorite in the community. The nearly 3-acre park features a dog pond, showers to wash off the pups, and a walking trail. The park is sectioned off to keep small and large dogs separate.
15300 University Boulevard - Sugar Land
The tropical oasis-themed Pawm Springs dog park is a six-acre retreat that includes large and small-dog areas enclosed by a chain linked fence, a shade pavilion and a resort style pond. Be sure to bring doggie beach towels when planning to relax at a pond that resembles a beach area with loungers, a palm tree water spray feature and beautiful tropical landscaping.
