Waterlogged Harris County braces for more rain
HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- Residents in north Harris County are bracing for more rain to add to their already-flooded streets and homes.
The roads in Cypress Terrace on Aldine Westfield near Treaschwig were dry this morning. Thursday night, they were full. Residents say they started flooding Thursday evening and that was before the rain came.
"I came home from work about 4:15 and there was a little water on the side and it wasn't even raining. I came out at 5:30 and this is what we found," said C.J. Jones, referencing the impassable road in front of her house.
The neighborhood sits adjacent to Cypress Creek.
"I've been here 9 years and never seen anything like this. Nothing at all. Now we have a big old lake with nowhere to go," explained Matthew Julien.
To the northwest, south of the Woodlands in Sawmill Ranch, the situation was worse. That neighborhood is close to Spring Creek. Backyards and streets are flooded. Homeowners are using sandbags to protect their homes.
To the south in Ponderosa Forest, a woman leaned on a stranger to help her out of her flooded car. Hers was among many abandoned in high water and it seems there's no end in sight.
"Especially looking at the radar, it will get worse," Julien added.
