LOS ANGELES, CA (KTRK) -- A mother was forced to escape with her two children out of her second story window Monday night when her apartment complex caught on fire.

The dramatic video shows the mother hand her young daughter to a firefighter who used a ladder to climb up to the window of the south Los Angeles apartment. Then you see a second child handed to a firefighter and the mother climbs down the ladder last.

According to KABC, the fire started around 10pm. Flames and smoke could be seen coming from the building.

Everyone was able to escape the building unharmed.

Nearly 40 firefighters extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes.

There's no word on how many residents were displaced by the fire or what caused it.
