HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police say officers shot a man waving a gun at them overnight.
That man is now recovering from his injuries at LBJ Hospital.
It happened just before 11 p.m. at the Villas at Colt Run apartment complex on Ley Road in northeast Houston.
EYEWITNESS VIDEO: Police rush to scene where alleged armed man was found
A woman at the complex who first called police said she was worried that a friend who was coming over was going to hurt himself or someone else.
When HPD officers got there, they saw the 36-year-old man had a gun and was walking toward them. Police say he fired once into the ground, and then started shooting at the police.
A pair of HPD officers took cover and then opened fire, according to Executive Assistant Chief Matt Slinkard.
"It came in originally as what appears to be at best a disturbance, but don't know if there were any mental health issues involved," Slinkard said.
