Officials are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspects responsible for the murder of Hatem "Tim" Abuharbed, a store clerk who was killed in a robbery in February. The case captured national attention after the 54-year-old clerk's loyal German Shepherd waited patiently outside Abuharbed's apartment following his killing.
There was no way to tell the dog his owner would never return. Neighbors left food and water for the orphaned pup. Finally, a good Samaritan was able to coax him into her car. She planned to foster the dog for a week before handing him off to Abuharbed's brother. It's unclear where the dog is today.
Surveillance video from the Kay-B convenience store robbery shows two men, their faces covered and guns drawn, run into the store on February 7 around 10pm. One of them jumps over the counter and empties the cash register. They spend less than a minute inside. We now the know the shooter was the one seen in the video emptying the cash register, while the second robber ordered customers on the ground and robbed them one by one.
Some customers hid in the freezer.
Investigators say Abuharbed was shot in the thigh. The bullet pierced an artery in his leg and he died in the hospital.
If you have any information about the killers, contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. A $5,000 reward is offered in the case.
