BEAUMONT, TX (KTRK) -- You can add one more reason to check your surroundings when you're in a parking lot: Beaumont officials say they found a six-foot snake inside a woman's parked car.

It happened Thursday outside the Southeast Texas Medical Associates Medical Center on College Street in Beaumont.

Employees called police after they saw the large snake making its way through the parking lot.

Beaumont Animal Services Division Manager Matthew Fortenberry heard the call and went to help. By the time he got there, the snake had slithered into the frame of a car that was unintentionally parked over it.

The 6-foot reptile was determined to be chicken or rat snake. Fortenberry got it out of the car and released it in the National Forest at the Beaumont city limits.
