Girl bitten by shark undergoes third surgery at UTMB

GALVESTON, TX -- A 6-year-old girl underwent her third major surgery after she was bitten by a shark in Galveston.



Marin Alice Melton of Kerrville will have to stay at UTMB Galveston for the next week so doctors can observe her.

A little girl is recovering after a shark bit her on the leg during a visit to a Galveston beach Tuesday afternoon.




Marin's father, Matthew, says doctors are trying to repair much of her left leg and foot.



Melton was near Pirates Beach when she was bitten Tuesday, officials say. Her leg was left extensively damaged.

The victim is stable after surgery on Galveston Island


Doctors say she they are working to transfer skin grafts, soft tissue and nerve veins to her leg so she can walk again.



A prayer vigil will be held in Kerrville tonight in support of the little girl and her family.



A GoFundMe page is also being set up to help cover the expenses of her surgeries and recovery.
