Morocco beats World Cup co-host Canada 3-0 at Houston Stadium and advances to the quarterfinals

City officials advised that the fan walks for Morocco and Canada will impact traffic ahead of the teams' World Cup matchup at Houston Stadium on Saturday, July 4.

According to the Office of Emergency Management, the fan walks will impact traffic south of the Texas Medical Center and east of Houston Stadium between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Officials said the following streets will be heavily impacted as thousands are expected to attend the festivities:

• Fannin (Between Old Spanish Trail - Stadium)

• Greenbriar (OST to Fannin)

• Fannin (Northbound lanes from 610 South Loop south frontage road to Stadium)

City officials advised motorists to seek alternate routes in the affected areas.

The Round of 16 matchup between Canada and Morocco is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Houston Stadium. This is the last 2026 FIFA World Cup match that will take place in Houston.

On the final day of Round of 32 matches for the World Cup, FIFA said that Fan Festival Houston has reached capacity and is temporarily pausing entry on Friday afternoon.

The announcement comes as the match between Argentina and Cabo Verde is underway, with the match between Colombia and Ghana scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

Organizers said entry will resume as space becomes available. They added that people can visit local businesses throughout East Downtown nearby for dining and entertainment locations.

The World Cup match between Mexico and England is likely to have its Sunday kick-off time changed due to the risk of weather disruption, including flooding, sources told ESPN.

Kick-off is set to be at 12 p.m. local time at the Azteca Stadium, which is 7 p.m. in the UK and 2 p.m ET.

FIFA took lessons from last year's Club World Cup, which was blighted by six major weather delays in 63 matches. The governing body is now in ongoing discussions to move the Mexico vs. England kick-off time amid the threat of bad weather, sources told ESPN.

While America is celebrating its 250th birthday on July 4, Houston is also hosting its last FIFA World Cup match (Morocco vs. Canada - Round of 16).

TxDOT is holding off on major interstate construction closures due to both the holiday and the influx of international soccer fans.

Here's the timeline:

• Houston stadium opens three hours before the Canada vs. Morocco Round of 16 match, which starts at noon.

• Drivers will see increased traffic on the West and South Loops, on major corridors such as Kirby Drive (parts of Kirby will close), and extra traffic along Main, Fannin, and even, likely, south of the Loop along Bellfort.

• Look for additional riders on the south part of the METRO Rail line, Red Line.

• Once the match is over, drivers will likely see extra traffic in the area late in the afternoon, depending on how long the game lasts.
