Friends remember local soldier killed in Jordan
HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) -- Friends say Jimmy Moriarity Jr., the Houston-area soldier killed in combat in Jordan this week, was a charmer in social situations, the friend everyone wants to have and one tough soldier in the Army Special Forces.
"Jimmy was where he wanted to be. It was his dream, he's the definition of a patriot and American hero," AJ Daggett told Eyewitness News.
Moriarity, the son of a Vietnam vet, was 27 years old. He was one of three servicemen shot to death during a training mission as they entered a Jordanian Air Force Base this week.
Friend Steve Geuther said, "I think the family and us are looking for answers. We'd like some closure there. To figure out what happened."
The Green Beret earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Texas before joining the Army. It was a decision that didn't surprise those who know him best. "He was protecting every person here's life so. That alone is more than anybody here has done," added Daggett.

The UT and Strake Jesuit alum was scheduled to come home in a couple of weeks. His friend were looking so forward to their upcoming visits with him, never expecting they'd be talking like this.
"Forever a better person for knowing Jimmy. Incredible friend, selfless guy. I would give anything to hear him tell a story one more time, the best storyteller I've ever met," said Geuther.
