"Jared Diet" fail prompts Subway robberies, police say

HUEYTOWN, AL (KTRK) -- A man not seeing results from Subway's famous weight loss campaign decided to turn on the sandwich chain, authorities say.

A spree of Subway shop robberies had Alabama police looking for Zachary Torrance, 18.

Police believe he's responsible for robbing four Subway restaurants in four different towns, in just four days.

Hueytown Police Chief Chuck Hagler said, "He stated to the detective that he attempted the 'Jared Diet' and it did not work for him and he felt like he should get his money back. My first reaction to that is that's a crazy thing to say, but there has to be something, all he did was rob Subways."

The "Jared Diet" was a weight loss campaign sponsored by the chain featuring a man who lost a lot of weight by eating at Subway.

Hueytown Police are crediting social media for Torrance's arrest. A resident spotted him at a retail store and alerted police.
