Uber passenger killed after car breaks down on Southwest Freeway
Misty Holley was taking an Uber home when it began having problems on the highway. The vehicle was stopped on the road when a truck slammed into it, police said.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 39-year-old woman is dead after the Uber she was riding in was hit from behind over the weekend.

The incident happened early Saturday. Houston police said Misty Holley was a passenger in a Mitsubishi Lancer, when the vehicle began having mechanical problems in a moving lane of traffic on the Southwest Freeway, near Newcastle.

While stopped on the freeway, a truck slammed into the back of the car, killing Misty Holley.

Investigators said Misty Holley, who was in the backseat, died at the scene.

"It's still a shock, but I feel like the first few days was majorly a shock and most of us are barely functioning," said Ariel Holley, Misty's sister.

Misty Holley's family told ABC13 she worked as a security guard at the Point Aquarius gated community on Lake Conroe.

"She had a little tenor ukulele and she would have it in the guard shack with her. Cars and the residents would be coming through and she would be learning new songs on it and play it for the residents. She was a character for sure," her family told ABC13.

Police said in his statement, the 50-year-old identified himself as an Uber driver. He was taken to the hospital after the crash with broken ribs.

The 30-year-old driver of the truck that slammed into the back of the sedan was not injured and stayed on the scene. He was not charged.

"She took every precaution she needed to. She got a ride in a vehicle that she was not going to be driving," Misty Holley's family told ABC13.

ABC13 reached out to Uber who said they are working on a statement regarding the crash.
