HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman who allegedly operated a med spa inside a salon suite building on the city's west side is facing felony charges after prosecutors say she gave a client lip injections without the proper medical licensing.
According to court records, Nahidah Hussein has been charged with violating the state's medical practice statute and causing physical harm. Prosecutors allege that in February, Hussein injected a client with lip fillers. That client got an infection, prompting her to call police.
The investigation eventually led authorities to Pink Beauty Med Spa, located at 8555 Westheimer, where Hussein was arrested Monday.
The arrest surprised neighboring business owners in the building, where individual salon and beauty professionals rent private suites to serve clients.
"There were like six cops in here for like a whole hour, and outside there were cops in there too," Emily Lopez, a nail technician who works nearby, said.
We went to Hussein's home on Tuesday. Her brother, who identified himself as Ammar Hussein, said she was still in jail. He also confirmed what state records already show: that she is licensed as a dental assistant.
"She was a dental assistant," he said. "Now she does beauty."
The Pink Beauty Medspa has an active Instagram account, where Hussein can be seen posting about a variety of cosmetic procedures. In court documents, investigators allege she did not have the credentials required to perform the cosmetic injections that are at the center of the case.
Family members said they were unaware of the allegations until Hussein didn't come home after work on Monday. They initially called police and thought she was missing.
By Tuesday afternoon, records showed that Hussein had bonded out. But until this case is over, a judge said she has to stay away from the medspa.
