Man trying to run over girlfriend get 45 years for killing woman: Docs

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man who intended to run over his girlfriend but fatally struck a different woman in 2024 has been sentenced to 45 years in prison, according to court documents.

ORIGINAL REPORT: Nightclub manager hit, killed while working by man allegedly aiming for partner in Midtown, HPD says

According to court records, Sanden James George pleaded guilty to murdering the woman who police said worked as a nightclub manager in Midtown.

The Houston Police Department told Eyewitness News in 2024 that George intended to hit his girlfriend with a car, but instead hit the victim while outside the nightclub on San Jacinto Street.

Court records identified the victim as 41-year-old Cindy Reyes.

Based on evidence and witness statements, HPD previously said George and his 24-year-old girlfriend were in a physical altercation inside a nightclub before security told them to leave. Once outside, police said the man got into his car and tried to hit his girlfriend, but instead hit Reyes, who was on the sidewalk. Her family confirmed she was a manager at a nearby nightclub and was closing up for the night when she died.
