History of JJ Watt's bigger injuries during his career

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston Texans star J.J. Watt is a defensive force...when healthy.

Though he has played through nagging injures throughout his career, recent seasons have forced the three-time Defensive Player of the Year to miss playing time.

Watt's injuries in 2015 reads more like a grocery list: a broken hand, two torn abs, three torn adductor muscles, and a twice-herniated disc.

In a post to the Players Tribune, Watt also revealed nearly losing his leg due to a staph infection.

Watt considers the infection the "scariest" injury of his life.

In any event, Watt left in the middle of the Texans' lone playoff game of that season due to injury. He later underwent surgery for his various maladies.

Watt entered the 2016 season reinvigorated. However, he played three games before bowing out to undergo back surgery.

Entering the current season, Watt had the same circumstances from the previous season. He felt healthy and energized to support his defensive unit.

On Sunday, Watt left the team's week 5 game against the Chiefs due to a tibial plateau fracture. The timetable of his absence wasn't immediately made clear by the team.

Before 2015, Watt played in all of his professional games.

In his Players Tribune post, Watt said he considered retirement. Despite injuries, though, he remained driven.

"Am I done?" Watt wrote. "I'm just getting started."
