Grand jury indicts 3 Harris Co. Sheriff's Office employees on separate assault cases
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A deputy and two jailers in the Harris County Sheriff's Office were indicted this week on separate assault cases alleged to have happened over the last two years.
One of these men has since been terminated. Two others are on administrative leave.
According to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, indictments were handed down to Sgt. Marco Carrizales, Dylan Goddard, and Michael Holley.
The 37-year-old Carrizales is accused of causing serious bodily injury to a person who drove through a four-way stop intersection that he was patrolling in October 2015. The district attorney's office said a chase ensued and minutes later, Carrizales allegedly struck the driver with an "unknown object."
The driver suffered a broken eye socket, the district attorney's office said. Carrizales faces a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault by a public servant.
"Detention Officer Holley is charged with two separate counts of assault with two different complaining witnesses," assistant district attorney Jules Johnson said.
Those incidents happened in December 2016 and were caught on surveillance video.
One of the victims is Bridget Odems' grandson, Ellis Harris.
"He said, 'Momma, they had to put me in a hospital,' because the deputy or police jumped on him, pushed him against the wall, and messed up his rib," Odems said.
Goddard, 24, was also a detention officer at Baker Street Jail. He indicted for allegedly slamming a shackled inmate on his head back in May 2016, the district attorney's office said.
That inmate needed seven staples in the back of his head.
"Now the process is going to play itself out," said Jason Spencer, a Harris County Sheriff's Office public information officer. "A jury will determine whether any crimes occurred."
All indictments were filed Tuesday.
