Prosecutor: 5-year-old girl watched dad strangle her mother

WESTBOROUGH, MA -- Prosecutors say a man choked his wife to death right in front of their 5-year-old daughter.

Michael Sugarman is charged in the murder of his late wife Kelly Sugarman. He is accused of attacking her last week inside the family's home in Grafton, Massachusetts.

Sheriff's deputies are investigating after they say a woman was stabbed by her husband in northwest Harris County.

The victim's daughter, Sofia, told investigators she watched her dad strangle her mom inside the couple's bedroom.

An autopsy showed Kelly suffered neck trauma before her death.

Michael Sugarman plead not guilty to the murder charge. His attorney, Janice Bassil, says her client is not competent to stand trial.

"He's one of the most profoundly ill people I've seen," Basill says.

The man accused in his wife's death was evaluated by a doctor and sent to a state hospital. He will be evaluated to see if he can stand trial.
