Firefighters rescue residents from flooded homes in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY (KTRK) -- East Montgomery County firefighters rescued about 15 residents from eight flooded homes Saturday off FM 1485 at the East Fork San Jacinto River as the area is experiencing major flooding.

EMC Fire Chief Jeff Taylor said the area is usually prone to flooding, which it is currently experiencing. The East Fork San Jacinto River is at 23.6 feet as of 2 p.m., almost five feet above its most modest flood stage, according to the National Weather Service. NWS projects the river to reach 23.8 feet between Sunday and Monday and then begin receding.

This is almost one fifth of an inch higher than the river got in May 2015 during the Memorial Day flooding, and places sixth overall in the river's history of flooding, according to the NWS.
