Man allegedly confesses to church arson in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 20-year-old man is charged with arson after authorities say he confessed to lighting a church on fire in northwest Harris County Saturday afternoon.



The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office says Brandon Hancock was seen running from the scene of a fire around 3:28pm at the John Wesley United Methodist Church in the 5800 block of Bermuda Dunes Drive.



Authorities say Hancock was seen running from the church into some nearby woods.



Captain Dean Hensley with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said Hancock has confessed to setting the church ablaze.



The extent of the damage to the church is unknown at this time.
