HIGHLANDS, TX (KTRK) -- A teen girl was rushed to the hospital after she was injured in a drive-by shooting in east Harris County Saturday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
It happened just before 9pm at a snow cone stand on North Main Street near East Houston. Witnesses heard several shots and investigators retrieved three bullet casings at the scene.
The snow cone stand had at least 10 people standing outside when a man in a dark colored pickup turned into the driveway got out of his truck and fired three shots into the crowd. One of them struck the 14-year-old girl. A teenager sitting near her said the victim was shot just beneath one of her eyes.
The girl was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital and said to be stable. According to the authorities, the bullet remains embedded and has not been removed, but she is said to be communicating with doctors.
The motive, according to a PIO, is unclear. Investigators don't yet know if the shooter was aiming at the victim or firing randomly. When the gunman was leaving, he is said to have shouted obscenities at the people before driving away.
