Donald Trump will head south of the border today after accepting an invitation to meet with the president of Mexico.

The meeting scheduled for Wednesday comes just hours before Trump is set to deliver a major speech on immigration.

All this comes on the heels of a speech in Everett, Washington in which the Republican presidential candidate vowed to protect the U.S.-Mexico border from further breach.

"We are going to secure our border and stop the drugs from pouring in and destroying our country," Trump said, before a crowded audience. "I'll be talking about that tomorrow night in Arizona. Big speech on immigration."

President Enrique Pena Nieto's office tweeted that both Trump and Hillary Clinton have been invited for bilateral relations dialogues.

All eyes will be on Mexico after Trump's pledge to build a border wall and to make the country pay for it, making Pena Nieto's meeting with the real estate mogul even more extraordinary.

The meeting also comes months after hard words between Trump and Mexican leaders.

Pena Nieto previous compared Trump to both Hitler and Mussolini.
