HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say a man was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon by a train in northeast Houston.

It happened shortly after 4pm in the 3700 block of Bennington at Bleaker.

Authorities say the victim, who was described only as an African American man in his early 30's, was walking southbound along the tracks underneath the Highway 59 bridge when the train came up from behind and hit him. Officials found headphones on the body and it's assumed he had them in his ears.

The train has been cleared from the scene, and traffic has resumed in the area.
