Cut and Shoot concerned about potential guns, ammo straw purchases

CUT AND SHOOT, TX (KTRK) -- City aldermen want to tie up loose ends following a federal investigation into possible straw purchases of guns and ammunition by the former chief of the Cut and Shoot Police Department.

Arnie Schulze retired as police chief in October 2015 after an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Aldermen believe Schulze used the city to make purchases totaling more than $42,000 worth of guns and ammo from 2012-15, according to a report by two aldermen that was presented at a council meeting.

Alderman John Winters said the Police Department's expenditures were well over its $1,500 budget in mid-2015, which piqued his interest. He and Alderman Cliff Todhunter started looking into the expenditures in spring 2015, which were listed with only a dollar amount and company name.
