New bridge provides safe passage for Katy ISD students
Students at Cinco Ranch JH and the high school have a safer way to walk to school, thanks to a new bridge over a drainage ditch

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- Students from Cinco Ranch and Falcon Ranch subdivisions have a new way to get to school. Two bridges are now connecting the neighborhoods to Cinco Ranch Junior and High School.

Previously, the students were crossing a drainage ditch as a shortcut but at times it proved to be dangerous.

"There were snakes and alligators that were crossing the bayou at the same time," said Eric Webb, parent. "So I decided to take it upon myself to go to the MUD district, the county, and to the drainage district to ask them if we could have this bridge built."

Webb, along with the Falcon Ranch Homeowner's Association, lobbied to the county, the MUD district, Katy ISD and others to get the funds necessary. 12 months later it became reality and in March of 2015, the two bridges were built.

The funds for the $565,000 project came from the Falcon Ranch HOA, Cinco Ranch HOA, the MUD District, Fort Bend County and the Willowfork Drainage District.
