Ways to repurpose Christmas cards

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- By now, most people have a house full of Christmas cards. Instead of tossing them soon, there are ways to repurpose them.

Earth's Nectar Products founder Tamika Fletcher has some creative ideas to make use of holiday greetings.

Ornaments

The only thing you need to make an ornament is scissors and string. If you have a card with clip art on the front, you can simply cut it out, add string to it, and hang it on the tree.

"This is such a great project for children and it takes less than 60 seconds to create these ornaments," Fletcher said.

If you have a few minutes, grab a mason jar to make even fancier ornaments.

"I just cut out the design on the front of the card. I put it inside a mason jar lid, add a little embellishment and string, and it's ready to hang," Fletcher said.

Gift tags and bows

If you've run out of bows or gift tags, take a greeting card and cut out the shape you desire.

"We used a pink card and cut them into petals. It doesn't need to be perfect. And to make it simpler to cut was not cutting one sheet at a time but all at once," Fletcher said.

Then, arrange the petals in a circle, glue them, and add an embellishment to the center. To finish the gift, use one of the petals as a nametag.

Art work

When you get a great Christmas card with a beautiful cover, you can simply cut the back and use it as art work.

"Use some colorful paper as a backing and place in a frame. Then, glue the card cut-out for a festive decoration," Fletcher said.

Bookmarks

"This is very easy. So, we're making bookmarks, and all we're doing is cutting strips," Fletcher said.

Cut the card in half along the crease and use pinking shears to cut the card in strips. Then, add twine to the top and you'll have a bundle of bookmarks.

Phone contact photos

Take a quick snapshot of the card and use it as a photo for your phone contact. This is a great way to save the pictures and loose the clutter.
