Dozens of animals seized from Heights area home

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Animal control officers confiscated dozens of animals from one woman's home in the Heights.

According to the Houston Humane Society, officers seized 21 cats, two dogs, two rabbits and a chicken. Several feral cats remain inside the home. The owner, Cheryl Roe, tells Eyewitness News she feels like she is losing her family.

"It's just too big brother, you know, it's too interfering in people's lives," Roe said, "It's just wrong."

Animal control officers said the home reeks of urine and feces, and there is not enough food and water for the animals.

Roe disagrees.

"None of my pets are sick. The ones that are sick -- there's three of them that are under medical care," Roe said. "Two are epileptic and one has herpes."

A neighbor said Roe started out with good intentions but has suffered from health problems of her own. All of the animals are being evaluated by a vet at the Humane Society. Roe could face animal cruelty charges.
