ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- It happens too often -- car thieves jumping into a running vehicle with a child left in the back seat.
It happened in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Police had been searching for hours after someone stole a car with 3-year-old Caraline in the back seat.
The vehicle was recovered later, but the little girl was nowhere to be found, until Officer Chris Poccia spotted a little bundle of purple alone in a dark parking lot.
"I picked her up and put her in my car and put the heat on," said Officer Puccia. "It's absolutely fantastic. They're the days that we live for."
Poccia -- a father himself -- says he broke down driving home from work that day, emotionally drained from the day's events.
Little Caraline was scared, but is doing OK. Police are still looking for the car thief.
