Esther Honig, a Kansas City journalist, sent an unaltered photo of herself to nearly 40 Photoshop experts in more than 25 different countries around the globe. Her request? "Make me beautiful." Knowing that each artist would infuse their own cultural concepts of beauty into the final image, Esther compiled the results of how beauty is perceived around the world into her project, Before and After.
The results are shocking in pale contrast to the original photo, and the intriguing changes are worth examining.
"Photoshop allows us to achieve our unobtainable standards of beauty, but when we compare those standards on a global scale, achieving the ideal remains all the more elusive."
