Beaumont loses water supply in wake of Harvey
BEAUMONT, Texas (KTRK) -- Beaumont city officials say they lost the water supply after Harvey made landfall and may not get it back for a week.
Friday morning, the city said its main and secondary water supplies were lost when the overflow of the Neches River damaged water pumps.
On top of that, the city expected to lose water pressure later in the morning. The outage is indefinite, according to officials.
Water must recede before workers can inspect and determine the extent of the damage, the city said.
ABC News spoke with Rep. Randy Weber and he said water will be back "much sooner than the 1-2 weeks that was originally projected."
Weber said he believes it will happen in under a week.
ABC News cameras captured a nearly 3-mile long line of people in their cars waiting for water.
Harvey made a second landfall as a tropical storm Wednesday near the Texas-Louisiana border, causing widespread flooding in the extreme southeast part of the Lone Star State.
