Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints donates shoes to needy Haitians

HOUSTON

The big-hearted high school students are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They organized a 5K fun run event in north Houston last month to kick off a shoe drive for people in Haiti. And they collected 3,000 pairs of new shoes.

"We believe in doing service and we want to provide service to the people in Haiti. They go through a lot of struggles so we felt shoes, we could donate to them," said Edgar Celestano, a youth leader at LDS Youth Group.

The freight forwarding company, Duegro USA, is shipping those shoes to Haiti for free.
