I-45 exit ramp to McKinney near downtown open after repairs

The ramp will remain closed until the necessary repairs can be made. While the ramp is closed, motorists destined to downtown are encouraged to use either the Dallas/Pierce right-hand exit (#47D) or the Allen Parkway left-hand exit (#47A).

Texas Department of Transportation crews re-opened the Interstate 45 southbound exit to McKinney into downtown Houston this morning after repairs were completed.

The need to close the ramp was determined yesterday as a result of a routine bridge inspection that revealed that the bridge sustained significant impact from an unreported collision.

The impact to the bridge was likely the result of the bridge structure being hit from below by an oversized trailer traveling on I-45 northbound sometime within the last year, experts say.

Houston District Engineer Mike Alford explained, "We will always take the necessary steps to assure public safety and closing the bridge until further inspections and repairs can be made is the most prudent course of action."
