According to police, 21-year-old Jamarcus Owens gave a friend a ride home just after 10pm Friday.
Investigators said the two men were sitting in Owens' car, parked outside of his friend's house in the 6100 block of Havendale at Sherburne, when an unknown vehicle approached and at least one person opened fire on them.
Owens' friend reportedly ran inside to alert his family and call for help. He then went back outside, trying to save Owens.
By the time emergency responders arrived at the scene, Owens was dead.
The second victim suffered minor gunshot wounds and was treated at an area hospital.
It's not clear yet whether this was a random shooting or if the men were targeted. Officers said they hope security cameras set up nearby will help the investigation.
