Arkansas man can thank butt-dial for saving his life

JONESBORO, AK

Larry Barnett, the owner of a car dealership in Arkansas, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Investigators say Barnett met up with a man to discuss killing one of his employees. During that meeting, Barnett accidentally butt-dialed the intended victim and he heard the entire conversation. Barnett's target went to the police station.

"I've been here now for 25 years," said Sgt. Doug Formon of the Jonesboro Police Department. "I've never recalled a time when a subject has accidentally - if you will – butt-dialed someone they're either trying to commit a crime against or the possible victim of a crime and then accidentally called them. No, I've never seen that happen before."

When the intended victim returned home, he discovered someone had already broken in and tampered with his gas line. Police then arrested Barnett, who confessed to wanting to kill his employee because he owed the man money and didn't want to pay him back. More arrests are expected.
