HISD raises tax rate by 3 cents

HOUSTON

On Thursday night, HISD trustees voted 4-3 to increase the district's tax rate by 3 cents, putting it at $1.1867 per every $100 of property valuation. According to the school district, trustees Larry Marshall, Paula Harris, Harvin Moore, and Rhonda Skillern-Jones in favor, and trustees Anna Eastman, Michael Lunceford, and Juliet Stipeche opposed.

The district says it still has the lowest rate in Harris County. For example, Spring ISDis at $1.57, Pasadena at $1.35 and Katy at $1.526, etc.

Board members also agreed to use $4.9 million in savings from prior years to fill in the rest of its budget gap.
