The accident happened around 12:45am on the Gulf Freeway near Calder in League City.
Police say the victim had a mattress on the roof of her car and was driving slowly. At some point a pickup hit the vehicle. The woman died in the accident.
Authorities say the driver of the pickup then slammed into a median. The pickup driver was not injured.
The northbound lanes were closed due to the investigation but all lanes have since reopened.
