The Harris County District Clerk's Office says it's been receiving calls from residents who say they're being contacted by people who claim to be county employees and threatened them for not showing up for jury service. The callers then ask for Social Security numbers, along with other personal information, from residents.
But the clerk's office says it never does that.
"Our office advocates protecting the privacy of our citizens, and our jury room staff will never contact prospective jurors asking for Social Security numbers or any other sensitive information," District Clerk Chris Daniel said in a prepared statement.
Anyone with concerns regarding jury service can contact the Harris County Jury Information Center at 713-755-6392 or the District Clerk Call Center at 713-755-7300.
