Lubbock police believe 44-year-old Pedro Esteban Hernandez shot Brenda Sue Caudillo several times during an argument late Sunday night before turning the gun on himself.
Lt. Chris Daniels says the injured 44-year-old woman managed to get out of the Budget Motel room and reach the front desk to seek help.
Police say Caudillo was taken to a Lubbock hospital where she remained in critical condition Monday.
Police are trying to determine what led to the argument.
