North Texas interstate wreck prompts shutdown

CORSICANA, TX

The wreck occurred shortly before noon Thursday on Interstate 45 between Corsicana and Ennis when the big rig struck another vehicle, causing the rig to dump at least some of the chemicals being transported.

Two people involved in the accident were taken about 45 miles north to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Concern that the victims may have been exposed to hazardous materials led officials to close the emergency room and send incoming ambulances elsewhere. It was later determined the exposure wasn't hazardous and the emergency room has since reopened.

The highway was completely reopened about five hours later.
