Bullet proof glass may have saved life of store clerk in NW Harris County

HOUSTON

Authorities say at around 10:30pm, a man came into the Valero gas station on Veteran's Memorial at Antoine and shot at the clerk several times. Investigators tell us they're not sure if this was a robbery attempt or if the shooter was simply annoyed with having to wait in line.

The suspect apparently cut in line and was trying to buy beer with change. The clerk told him to step back in the line and wait his turn and that's when the suspect opened fire.

The clerk says the bullet-proof glass around him saved his life.

"We put the bullet-proof glass and when he started talking bad, we closed the door and he started firing," said store clerk Ali Nizar.

Other store clerks as well as several customers were inside at the time. No one was injured.

The suspect got away. Anyone with any information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
