Police: Driver flees scene of fatal crash in northeast Houston

HOUSTON

According to police, three men were in a white Hyundai going west on Pardee near Kashmere a little after 11pm. The driver, who officers say is a 20-year-old man, was given the keys to drive the car by one of the other men.

Wilfredo Lopez says he was sleeping just on the other side of the wall from where a white Hyundai slammed into his home. When he walked outside, he saw two injured passengers.

"I see the one guy out of the car, one guy in the back," said Lopez.

According to police, the car was going west on Pardee with three young men inside, when the driver lost control.

"(He) goes on to private property, striking a light pole and snapping it in half. (The driver) goes through a wood fence, and eventually ends up striking a home," said Officer Ignacio Izaguirre with the Houston Police Department.

"He must have been going pretty fast," said neighbor Sotero River. "He might not have stopped at the stop sign. I don't know."

Rivera heard the crash and went to investigate but by then, the driver had run away.

"He has two passengers, one in the front and one in the back. After the crash, the passenger in the back was pronounced dead here at the scene," Izaguirre said.

According to police, the back passenger, a 17-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old, the front passenger, was taken to the hospital and police say he is expected to survive.

The driver took off running right after the crash and police are still looking for him. He is facing charges of failing to stop and render aid.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the wanted driver is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065
