Firefighter injured in Austin power plant blaze

AUSTIN, TX

The Austin American-Statesman reports the fire happened early Monday at the Decker Creek Power Station in northeast Austin.

Battalion Chief Thayer Smith says it took more than an hour to extinguish the fire involving insulation covering a turbine at the natural gas power plant.

Smith says the firefighter was hurt when a piece of smoldering insulation fell and hit him on the cheek. The firefighter was treated at the scene.

Smith says the affected turbine was taken offline during the incident. The rest of the plant continued normal operations with no electrical outages reported.
