Car chase leads to drug bust in southwest Houston, two suspects' arrest

HOUSTON

The chase ended around 6pm at a shopping center on Hilcroft and Harwin. The chaos had workers at some of these businesses afraid and locking their doors.

Police say the suspect led them on a chase because he had about 100 pounds of marijuana in the gray rental car he was driving.

The trouble all began with a traffic stop for speeding near West Loop and Highway 59. Police say the suspect hit the gas as the officer approached his car, sparking the chase. The continued through the southwest side until the man drove up the sidewalk and bailed from the car near Hilcroft and Harwin.

"When they turned into the parking lot, the guy driving the Ford Flex, he jumped the curb. I seen the police turn in behind him. Then he ran into this curb right here and he took off running. Police started chasing him," one witness said.

Witnesses saw the man running through a shopping center and pointed police in his direction. Officers eventually caught up with him and took him into custody.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, had to be treated by EMS for unknown injuries. Police say he'll be facing drug charges.

Police say this arrest was all part of a much bigger operation and could result in even more arrests.
