Elderly woman pulled from burning home dies

HOUSTON

The fire broke out at a home on Orleans near Uvalde shortly before 10:30am. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the house, but burglar bars delayed their entry.

A few minutes later, firefighters located a 70-year-old woman on the floor near the laundry room of the home. According to fire officials, the victim was breathing, and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with second and third degree burns and suffering from smoke inhalation. She was listed in critical condition, and later died from her injuries.

The woman was the only one found inside the home. Her identity has not been released.
