Residents at a complex in northwest Houston scrambled out of their apartments after it caught fire in the middle of the night.

Firefighters were called to Hammerly Gardens Apartments on Hammerly around 1:50am.

The fire broke out in a vacant unit so arson investigators were called to the scene. Residents grabbed what little they could. One couple rescued its puppy, while another man made sure he took his TV.

"I had to it carry out. I got a spine disease but I made sure my ancient old giant TV was out anyways," said the resident.

No serious injuries were reported.
