Dillon Schlegel of Vidor, who's now 17, in July pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder in a plea deal. A judge in Beaumont on Monday sentenced Schlegel.
Orange County sheriff's Deputy Fred Ashworth in January was shot with his own gun. Authorities say Schlegel, who was 16 and a minor, disarmed the officer and opened fire.
Ashworth was shot while returning the teen to a juvenile facility after a court hearing in Orange. The deputy recovered.
Schlegel in March was certified to stand trial as an adult for the shooting. He originally faced juvenile charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading detention.
