New hiking, biking trails coming to Houston

HOUSTON

On Friday, the city announced that it received a $15 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to expand hike and bike trails. Mayor Annise Parker says many of the city's current trails end abruptly and the grant money will help change that.

"It's long past the time for us to, what I like to say, string the beads, to connect the trail segments to connect Houston," said Mayor Parker.

She did not give a target date for construction, but she expects it to start soon. The mayor says the city has already mapped out 18 miles of new trails, and it's just a matter of getting contracts to build the trails.
