Gov. campaigns in heated Texas House race

Gov. Rick Perry has stepped into a contentious primary race where two incumbent Republicans are trying to remain in the state House after redistricting put them in the same East Texas district.

Perry has been campaigning for Rep. James White. He's endorsed the freshman lawmaker and the pair stood alone on a stage Thursday afternoon in Lumberton.

White and fellow Republican Rep. Mike Hamilton, who's been in office since 2003, are seeking the GOP nomination for the district that includes Hardin, Jasper, Polk, Newton and Tyler counties.

The race has turned nasty with Hamilton releasing records that showed White received a warning letter about holding inappropriate sexual discussions while he was a teacher in Livingston. White has denied any wrongdoing and Perry says he's backing him 100 percent.
